NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES (5-9):Â The Aggies finished off their non-conference slate in a big way, blowing out Mid-Atlantic Christian, 88-63, on December 21.Â
Â
True freshman
Jaylen Jackson enjoyed his first collegiate action and made the most of the opportunity, posting a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. This season, his 12 boards are the most by an Aggie in a single game.Â
Â
The Aggies got off to a slow start this year at 1-6 but have won two out of their last three games. They are, however, entering uncharted territory with their first-ever Big South Conference game. A&T has been dominant in home conference games of late, departing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), having won 27-straight inside Corbett Sports Center. Their last home conference loss came almost five years ago, in February of 2017.Â
Â
Coach Jones is now in his third season overall and second full season after initially taking over on an interim basis on December 24, 2019. Jones has compiled a 19-5 conference record and the program's first regular-season conference title since 1990. He even earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) coach of the year honors in 2019-20. He enters today's game 30-25 (.545) overall.Â
Â
PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE (8-7):Â The Blue Hose is also riding some momentum with a win over Truett McConnell in blowout fashion, 91-49, on Dec. 30. Four Presbyterian College players scored in double-figures led by senior forward Winston Hill's 14.Â
Â
The Blue Hose has played the most games (15) out of anybody in the Big South and average 67.1 points per night. They are led individually by their All-Big South first-team sophomore guard Rayshon Harrison, who sits at 17.1 points per game. He ranks third in the league in scoring.Â
Â
PC is also second in the Big South in rebounding defense, allowing their opponents just 31.3 boards per night while A&T's surrenders 37.9.Â
Â
Quinton Ferrell is in his third year as the PC men's basketball coach. He is in his eighth season overall after serving as an assistant at PC from 2007-12 after completing a four-year career at PC that saw him start at the point guard position for three years. In his first head coaching opportunity, Ferrell is 25-44 (.362).Â
Â
THE SERIES:Â This will be the third all-time meeting between the Blue Hose and the Aggies. PC is 2-0 versus A&T, winning the games by a combined eight points.Â
Â
QUOTABLES:Â "We are excited about suiting up for the first game in the Big South. We have to stay true to the process and compete at a high level every time we get to play. We have a lot of room for growth, but our goal hasn't changed. We are focused on being 1-0. We want to be the last team standing."Â
