Sturgis Qualifies For 200m Semifinal

Sturgis ran a 22.37 on Thursday.

EUGENE, Ore. – NCAA 100 and 200 meter outdoor track and field national champion Cambrea Sturgis qualified for the women's 200m semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Thursday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Sturgis won her 200m heat in 22.37. It was the fourth-fastest qualifying time on Thursday. The 200m semifinal will take place Friday night at 7:25. If Sturgis finishes the top-2 in her heat or has one of the next sixth fastest times, she will advance to the women's 200m final on Saturday.

If she then finishes in the top-3 of the final, she will be on the 2021 U.S. Olympic team.

Sturgis won the 100 and 200m at the NCAA championships two weeks ago. It marked only the 13th time in NCAA history a runner has accomplished that feat. Sturgis was the first to do it in five years. She ran a personal-best 22.12 to win the 200m national championship. It was the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history.
