HIGH POINT, N.C. – North Carolina A&T completed their third outdoor track and field event of the season on Friday at High Point University's VertKlasse Meeting at Vert Stadium.
The Aggies men's and women's outdoor teams came away with five wins over the weekend. They also recorded a combined 11 top-5 finishes.
Junior Aisha Southern led the Aggies, winning the women's 100 meters and 200m. A&T won both 400-meter hurdle races as junior Nilaja Florence won on the women's side and senior Akeem Lindo won the race on the men's side.
Off the track, senior Loren James won the women's shot put.
Southern won the 100m in 12.01 two weeks after running an 11.96 at HPU in the Aggies season opener. Sophomore teammate Aasiyah Barr finished second in 12.16. She lowered her time from two weeks ago, which was 12.26. She had a stronger wind this week at 2.1 as opposed to 0.6 two weeks ago.
In the women's 200m, Southern finished in 24.78. She finished ahead of Western Carolina's Mekyll Robinson, who finished in 25.37. Southern's best 200m time of the season was a 24.64 ran two weeks ago at HPU.
Florence secured the women's 400mh win with a time of 1:00.76. Florence's time ranks her No. 2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) behind teammate Sydni Townsend.
Lindo's 400mh race ended with him running a 52.60. Senior teammate Brandy Felix finished fifth at 54.30. Lindo's time ranks him third in the MEAC.
James got the Aggies a win in a field event. She tossed the shot put 48-feet, 10 ¼-inches to win the event. She is already No. 1 in the conference after she threw the shot put 49-feet, 2 ½-inches at the University of South Carolina last week.
Junior Kendall Turner also had a good day. He finished third in the men's 200m at 21.71 and fourth in the 100m at 10.86. Senior Aaron Wilkerson placed fourth in the men's shot put at 54-feet, 2 ¾-inches.
