Box Score

WACO, Texas – The North Carolina A&T Aggies fell to the Baylor Bears, 7-3, in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark in non-conference baseball.

The Aggies drop to 7-21 on the season.

The Bears plated a run in the first inning for the fourth game in a row and jumped out to a 1-0 lead early.

Shortstop Jack Pineda smacked a single into left center, and catcher Andrew Thomas brought him all the way around to score with a double off the center field wall.

A&T responded with a run of their own in the third to knot the game at 1. Senior shortstop Dustin Baber led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Senior outfielder Shane Faulk laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Baber to third, and then senior catcher Ryne Stanley drove a fly ball deep enough into left field to bring him home on a sacrifice RBI fly.

Junior lefty Ethan Chavis (0-3) got the ball for A&T in the series finale. The southpaw went 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Parks relieved Chavis after the Bears put together a two-run, two-hit third inning, highlighted by an RBI-double from Pineda.

The Aggies trailed 5-1 heading into the visitor's sixth. With freshman infielder Alex Reyna on first, having reached on an infield single, redshirt freshman Xavier Bussey launched a hanging breaking ball over the left field wall for his first career home run to make it 5-3.

Bussey paced A&T with his 1-for-4 day with the home run and two RBI. Stanley went 1-for-2 with an RBI on the sacrifice fly.

The next eight Aggies were retired in order and Baylor added a run in each inning from the third to the seventh to grow their lead.

Pineda led the Bears, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. He was one of five Baylor batters with a multi-hit game.

The Aggies are off this week before heading to Durham, N.C., for a four-game weekend showdown against rival N.C. Central, April 9-11.
