EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T lost 6-1 Tuesday afternoon to College of Charleston in non-conference women's tennis action at the Aggie Tennis Complex. It was the home opener for the Aggies women's tennis team as
Manuela Sofia Jimenez at No. 6 doubles got her first collegiate win by beating Eleanor Campbell, 6-2, 6-1.
"Today, the girls performed well at doubles and singles. Unfortunately, we did not get the win, but it is coming soon. We will keep working hard and be ready for Friday against Queens University of Charlotte," said A&T head coach
William Crutchfield.
At No. 1 doubles Renata Ruiz and Florielvis Hurtado teamed together. The duo led 3-1, but the Cougars duo of Anastasia Palaska and Clara Errard became solid, and they found a way to win five straight games to take the 6-3 win in the match.Â
Trisha Vinod and Jimenez played at No. 3 doubles and were defeated 6-1 to clinch the Cougars' doubles point. In the finals doubles match at No. 2,
Ameer Robertson and Marlene Estenssoro at No. 2 doubles played well and strong at the beginning of the match. However, Victoria Walter and Slade Coetzee found the way to take the match, 6-2.Â
Vinod played the most intense match of the day at No. 4 singles before losing 6-4, 6-2, against Vici Walter. Other singles scores were Renata Ruiz losing 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to Coetzee. Palaska defeated Robertson 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2. Florielvis Hurtado lost 6-1, 6-3 to Errard at No. 3, and Estenssoro dropped 6-0, 6-2 decision to Peyton Brotzman at No. 5.
The Aggies compete on March 5 at Queens University of Charlotte at 4 p.m.
