Aggies Showoff For National TV, Beat NCCU

Box Score

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina A&T men's basketball toppled N.C. Central, 79-63, on ESPNU Wednesday night inside the McDougald-McLendon Arena to extend their first-place lead in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division. The Eagles had previously won 18-straight home conference games.

"Another great program win," said A&T coach Will Jones. "The guys laid it all on the line. What's great about it is we get to do it again this Saturday at the Club!"

The Aggies had many double-figure scorers in the game, led by senior guard Kwe Parker and junior wing Tyrone Lyons, who each notched 15 points apiece. Junior big Webster Filmore added 12 points and a career-high 14 boards in the best game of his career at A&T. His previous career-high was eight rebounds, and tonight was his first career double-double.

Senior facilitator Kameron Langley recorded 11 points to round out double-figure scoring for the Aggies. Langley also dished out nine assists, grabbed three rebounds, and swiped three steals. He is now three steals shy of tying the all-time school record (Phillip Allen, 225).

The Aggies dominated the game from start to finish. NCCU led for a total of 41 seconds. Their largest lead was one, while the Aggies led by as much as 20 and led for almost 37 minutes. The Aggies won the battle with discipline and fundamentals, as A&T outrebounded the Eagles, 41-33, and shot a season-high 80.6 percent (25-for-31) from the free throw line. The Aggies also forced NCCU into 14 turnovers and only committed five themselves, leading to a 20-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

Senior forward Devin Palmer led the way for the Eagles with his 19 points. Senior guard CJ Keyser came into the game leading the MEAC in scoring at over 18 points a game but was held to just 11 tonight.

This game marks the first of two between these teams this week. N.C. A&T will welcome NCCU to Club Corbett on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m., for a nationally-televised matchup on ESPNU. The Aggies have won 27-straight home conference games, dating back to February of 2017.
