AGGIES OVERVIEW: North Carolina A&T women's basketball looks to clinch the No. 1 seed out of the south this weekend at Norfolk, Va. In the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division, North Carolina A&T is on top at 6-0 and has won its last nine games. The Aggies can potentially claim the division's top seed with a win over Norfolk State in either of the two games scheduled to be played this weekend.    Â
The Aggies are in this position because they have defeated every MEAC team they have faced, and the likelihood of teams being able to make up games at this stage of the season is slim. The two No. 1 seeds, from the north and south, receive a bye until the tournament's semifinals. Â
Last weekend, the Aggies used a 36-13 third quarter en route to an 87-57 win Saturday at North Carolina Central and a 22-11 third quarter to defeat NCCU 72-62 Sunday.
Four Aggies are averaging double-digits in scoring, led by senior forward Deja Winters, the fourth-leading scorer in the league. Â
Graduate guard Chanin Scott is tied for fourth in the MEAC with 9.1 rebounds per game. Freshman guard D'Mya Tucker leads the team, shooting 54.2 percent from the floor even though she does not have enough field goal attempts to rank in the conference. Four Aggies rank in the top-seven in field goal shooting in the MEAC, led by junior Jasmen Walton, who is second at 49.2 percent. Scott is fourth at 44 percent, Winters is sixth at 41.9 percent and freshman guard Sean Kelly Darks is seventh at 41.7 percent.Â
The Aggies defense stifled Norfolk State in the two games played in East Greensboro. The Aggies held the Spartans to 26.8 percent shooting (30-for-112) in two games.Â
Aggie alum Tarrell Robinson leads A&T. Robinson is in his eighth season as head coach. He enters today's game with a 170-90 (.654) record and has the best winning percentage in school history. He is 22 wins shy of becoming the school's all-time leader in wins, and he has posted an impressive 96-28 (.774) record against MEAC opponents without ever having a losing season in league play. Under Robinson, the Aggies have five 20-win seasons, two MEAC tournament titles, three regular-season titles and five postseason appearances. Â
SPARTANS OVERVIEW:  It has been almost a month since the last time that Norfolk State competed on the court, with the previous game occurring on Jan. 24, a 57-44 loss to NCCU.         Â
Jalynn Holmes leads the Spartans with 12.6 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. Jaiden Morris is averaging 11.8 points per game, and Mangela Ngandjui is also averaging double figures at 10.0 points per game to go along with 9.2 rebounds per game.Â
Norfolk State Spartans coach Larry Vickers leads NSU from the sideline. Vickers is in his sixth overall season and his fifth full season. He guided the Spartans to a second-place finish in the MEAC last season at 12-4 and won 19 games overall. He enters today's game with a 74-66 overall record.Â
