WHO'S ON FIRE:Â Senior outfielder Camden Williamson reached base safely in 16 straight games in 2020 before the COVID pandemic caused the season's cancelation.Â
AGGIES OVERVIEW:Â The Aggies were poised for big things in 2020, having already gathered a two-game weekend sweep of ACC-foe Boston College and a near-upset over nationally-ranked N.C. State, before COVID-19, halted the season. Fortunately, the NCAA ruled that all players could retain that year of eligibility; therefore, N.C. A&T is boasting potentially the most talented roster they have had since head coach Ben Hall took over eight seasons ago. Senior right-hand pitcher Michael Johnson is the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) preseason pitcher of the year for the second-straight year. The Aggies have an eye-popping seven All-MEAC players in first-team selections Baber, Stanley, Johnson, Williamson and senior RHP Leon Davidson. The two second-team picks are Rodriguez and freshman infielder Connor Knapp. MEAC sports information directors and head coaches picked A&T to win the MEAC's southern division in the preseason poll. Hall, who enters his eighth season, is 119-160 overall in Aggieland. He is 68-58 over the last three years.Â
COUGARS OVERVIEW:Â Â The Cougars were off to a smoking hot start in 2020 with a 12-2 record, including an 11-2 rout of No. 21 Clemson on March 4. In the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) preseason poll, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches, Charleston is picked to finish second in the southern division. Senior first baseman Ari Sechopoulos and freshman starter Caswell Smith were named to the preseason All-CAA team, and junior outfielder Donald Hansis received preseason All-CAA honorable mention. Sechopoulos batted .360 with 10 extra-base hits and a CAA-best 20 RBI through 14 games last season, and Smith posted a 3-0 record with a 1.35 ERA and 20 strikeouts in four starts as a true freshman. Fourth-year head coach Chad Holbrook is 84-41 (.672) since coming to Charleston in 2018 and 283-146 (.660) overall. Holbrook served as the associate head coach at South Carolina from 2013-2017.Â
