CLEMSON, S.C. – The North Carolina A&T women's tennis team traveled to Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) territory on Saturday with a visit to Clemson University.
The ACC's Clemson Tigers defeated the Aggies 7-0 at Hoak Sloan Tennis Court. The Tigers (4-3) took the doubles point by sweeping all three contests.
The singles competition started at No. 5 with N.C. A&T sophomore Marlene Estenssoro losing to Laura Marti in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6, freshman Mauela Sofia Jimenez lost to Clemson's Zaina Nait Omar 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Mikaya Hamilton completed her match next as she dropped a two-set match to Clemson's Sophia Hatton. At No. 3, Aggies junior Ameer Robertson fell to Cristina Mayorova 6-0, 6-0. N.C. A&T sophomore Florielvis Hurtado Pernaleta had a little more success at No. 4 as she battled Lana Sipek before losing 6-1, 6-2.
In the final singles match of the day, senior Renata Ruiz showed a lot of energy and courage on the court, but Jenna Thompson from the Clemson Tigers took the point by defeating Ruiz, 6-4, 6-1.
The Aggies next match will be at Radford University at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27.
