N.C. A&T Wraps Up Regular Season In Durham

Aggies look to embark on another 20-win season.

AGGIES OVERVIEW:  North Carolina A&T women's basketball finishes the regular season with a short trip to Durham, N.C., to face archrival N.C. Central Thursday at 4 p.m. The Aggies are looking for their fifth 20-win season under head coach Tarrell Robinson and their ninth in the past 13 seasons.
The Aggies are slated to be either the third or the fourth seed at next week's MEAC tournament. The Aggies could, however, find themselves in a three-way tie for second by the end of the night. Junior guard Deja Winters ranks 13th in the MEAC in scoring with 11.8 points per game, while senior guard Cinia McCray ranks 15th.
Senior forward Le'on Hill is tied for sixth in rebounding in the league and junior forward Jayla Jones-Pack is ninth. Senior center Alexus Lessears ranks 10th (6.5). 
Jones-Pack ranks sixth in the conference with a field goal percentage at 48.5 and Lessears is seventh at 48.4. Winters ranks fourth in 3-point shooting at 35.4 percent. 

N.C. CENTRAL EAGLES: The Eagles lost 70-55 the last time out to snap a four-game winning streak.  The Eagles are led by Paulina Afriyie who averages 14.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Kieche White and Anissa Rivera also average in double figures at 13.7 and 12.7 points per game respectively. 
Earlier this season on Feb. 15, the Eagles came away with an 86-80 win in double overtime at Corbett Sports Center after shooting 23-for-33 at the free throw line compared to 5-for-12 for the Aggies at the line.  
The Eagles were led by White with 27 points and Rivera with 26 points and 12 boards. Afriyie added 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The Series: The Aggies hold a 30-7 lead over the Eagles including a 12-2 record in Durham.  

Rankings: The Aggies lead the MEAC and rank sixth nationally in turnovers forced (22.0). They are second in the MEAC and eighth in the nation in 3-point field goal defense (26.2). N.C. A&T leads the MEAC and ranks 10th in the country in field goal percentage defense (34.0). 

The team also leads the MEAC with a rebounding margin of plus-6.3. The Aggies secure 43.37 rebounds per game to lead the conference and rank 11th nationally. The Aggies ranks second in the conference with 1,171 total rebounds. The team ranks third in the MEAC and 42nd in the nation in blocked shots per game (4.5). They are third in the conference and 56th nationally with 121 total blocks. 

N.C. A&T leads the conference in scoring defense holding opponents to 56.4 points per game, which ranks 25th in the country.  The team ranks second in the MEAC in scoring margin at plus-9.4 points per game.

Career Watch: McCray needs 62 points to move into 13th place all-time in scoring past Amber Calvin (2009-13). Lessears has 838 career rebounds to place third in school history. She needs 14 rebounds to move into second place held by Lamona Smalley (2006-10). 

Hill needs 36 rebounds to move into ninth place all-time past Angela Hill (1990-94). Lessears has 112 blocks and needs four blocks to move into fourth place. Hill has 106 career blocks to rank sixth in school history and is chasing teammate Lessears for fifth place.

Up Next: The Aggies start postseason play with the MEAC Championship.  The championship starts Tuesday, but N.C. A&T won't start until Thursday as either the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed.
