Wildcats Defeat Aggies In Daytona Beach

Jones-Pack finishes with 12 points and eight rebounds.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – North Carolina A&T women's basketball fell to the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats for the second time this season.

This time the Aggies were defeated 70-50 at B-CU's Moore Gymnasium.

Junior forward Jayla Jones-Pack had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. She also added a team-high four blocks on 5-for-9 shooting.  shooting 5-for-9. Senior forward Le'on Hill added eight points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Bethune-Cookman (16-5, 8-1 MEAC) outscored the Aggies in a high-scoring first quarter, 20-17. The Wildcats led 17-13 before a Hill layup cut it to two. B-CU responded with a 3-pointer by Ashanti Hunt. Senior center Alexus Lessears ended the first-quarter with a jump shot for the Aggies three-point deficit.

The second quarter opened with the two teams going back-and-forth as Jones-Pack got the Aggies to within two at 23-21 with a jump shot. B-CU proceeded to go on an 8-0 capped by a Ciara Thompson layup to give the Wildcats a 31-21 lead with 6:13 remaining in the first half.

Jones-Pack ended the Wildcats with a layup, but B-CU scored the next four points to build their lead to 37-23 with 3:25 remaining in the first half. A Jasmen Walton 3-pointer followed by a fastbreak layup from Hill got the Wildcats lead to nine at 37-28 at the 2:37 mark of the second quarter.

A minute later the lead was down to seven at 39-32 when Jones-Pack scored in the post. Two Kiana Williams free throws gave the Wildcats a 41-32 at the half.

The third quarter was not kind to the Aggies (15-7, 7-3 MEAC). The Wildcats opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 51-32 lead. N.C. A&T never recovered as the Wildcats held a 62-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.

B-CU's lead never got under 18 from that point. Hunt and Amaya Scott led the Wildcats with 15 points apiece.

The Aggies remain in Florida to face Florida A&M Monday at 6 p.m. in Tallahassee.
