Three-Point Barrage In Fourth Quarter Leads Aggies to Win

Jones-Pack finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – North Carolina A&T women's basketball defeated Florida A&M for the second time this season as junior forward Jayla Jones-Pack recorded a double-double with 15 rebounds and 13 points in a 66-49 win in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at the Al Lawson Center.

The Aggies used a big second half to earn the win as they outscored FAMU 39-22 in the second half after the game was tied at 27 at the half.

Jones-Pack shot 5-for-9 from the field and added a block and a steal. Sophomore guard Jasmen Walton added 11 points and four assists and junior forward Deja Winters added 11 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore guard Kennedy Boyd added nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from 3-point range.

The Aggies (16-7, 8-3 MEAC) pulled away in the third quarter outscoring the Rattlers 21-10. The game remained tight through the first 4 ½ minutes of the quarter, however. A 3-pointer by FAMU's Jasmine Ballew put the Rattlers (4-18, 2-9 MEAC) to within one at 32-31 with 5:36 remaining in the quarter.

N.C. A&T slowly started to increase their lead, however. A 9-2 run highlighted by a Winters 3-pointer gave the Aggies a 41-33 lead with 2:34 remaining in the third. A layup from Jones-Pack 90 seconds later put the Aggies ahead 44-35.

After two FAMU free throws, Walton netted another three for the Aggies to put the Aggies up by double figures, 47-37. A free throw gave the Aggies a 48-37 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Three straight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter was the knockout punch for the Rattlers. Sophomore Taya Jones delivered the first blow followed by a three from Winters and another 3-pointer from Jones to give the Aggies a 57-38 lead with 6:12 to play. Jones-Pack added a layup to complete the Aggies 11-0 run as the Aggies split their Florida trip.

FAMU was competitive with the Aggies over the first 2 ½ quarters. The Rattlers led the Aggies 11-9 after the first quarter. In fact, the Rattlers led 19-11 with five minutes remaining in the first half. A tip-in by senior center Alexus Lessears and a 3-pointer from Kennedy Boyd got the Aggies to within six.

Another Boyd 3-pointer with 2:25 remaining in the first half cut the Rattlers lead to 23-22. The Rattler lead remained at one, 25-24, after a Jones-Pack with 1:14 to play in the first half. After a
bucket from FAMU's Jhaka Dilworth, the Aggies scored three straight points on free throws to tie the game at the half.

The Rattlers were led by Alaina Rice with 10 points and four rebounds. The Aggies return home for the final three home games of the season starting with North Carolina Central Saturday at 4 p.m.
