RADFORD, Va. – North Carolina A&T women's tennis junior
Mikaya Hamilton wins her first singles match of the season as the Aggies fell to Radford 6-1 Saturday at the Radford Tennis Complex.
Hamilton won the first set 6-1 over Tyler Blalock and won the second set 6-0 at the No. 3 singles position.
Radford won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Radford doubles team of Anatasia Belyeva and Jeanine Acierto defeated junior
Ameer Robertson and sophomore
Marlene Estenssoro Pineda 6-0 at the No. 2 position. The Aggies tied the doubles point after freshmen
Jaimy Lokoschus and
Florielvis Hurtado Pernaleta defeated Camryn McClure and Marielle Leahy 7-5 at the No. 3 position.
The doubles point came down to the No. 1 position. Radford's doubles duo of Malin Falk and Katey Fruehauf defeated senior
Renata Ruiz Rabadan and Hamilton 7-5 to win the doubles point.
Hamilton's singles win tied the match at one, but Radford took a 2-1 lead after Falk defeated Robertson 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position and took a 3-1 lead after McClure defeated Lokoschus 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position.
Radford clinched the match after Fruehauf defeated Hurtado Pernaleta 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 5 singles position and took a 5-1 lead after Acierto defeated Estenssoro Pineda 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles position. The Highlanders won the final match as Belyaeva defeated Ruiz Rabadan 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position.
The Aggies finish the weekend with a trip to Bristol, Tenn., to face King University Sunday at noon.
