EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team is set to take on Duke and Coastal Carolina this weekend to begin their spring season.
The Aggies roster features eight student-athletes consisting of three freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and a graduate. One of those sophomores is Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rookie of the year and first-team All-MEAC selection
Vasil Ivanov. After going 11-7 overall and 4-0 in conference last season, Ivanov is poised for a successful second year.
Duke – 1/18/2020, 5 p.m.
As for Duke, their roster consists of 11 student-athletes with several new faces including five freshmen and a transfer student. The Blue Devils welcome in the No. 1 recruiting class according to TennisRecruiting.net. Junior Luka Keist joins the Duke roster after two successful years at Charlotte where he was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year as a sophomore and earned first-team all-conference honors both seasons.
The Blue Devils are returning from a successful trip to Hawaii that saw them take down the Rainbow Warriors, 4-1. Doubles action was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Aggies will be the second game of the day for Duke at 5 p.m. as the Blue Devils are also slated to take on UNC Wilmington at noon.
Coastal Carolina – 1/20/2020, 8 a.m.
The Chanticleers sport a very experienced roster of seven student-athletes including five seniors and two juniors. They were recognized as the most improved Division-I men's tennis program by the University Sports Program, according to Massey Ratings for their efforts last season. The Chants went 6-14 in 2018 before improving 85 spots to finish 92
nd in 2019.
This year, Coastal returns most of their roster, but suffers key losses in 2019 Sun Belt Player of the Year Luis Faria and Lawrence Perrin. They open up their spring season against nationally-ranked Wake Forest on Saturday before facing off against the Aggies on Monday.
