CONWAY, S.C. (February 17, 2018) – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team lost to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex, 7-0. Despite the loss, N.C. A&T head coach William Crutchfield likes the march the Aggies (0-6) are making toward Mid-Eastern Atheltic Conference play.
“It is difficult to put into words the progress that I see on the team,” said Crutchfield. “The good thing is that we are getting better together as a team. We are getting stronger and playing a better brand of tennis. I like our MEAC chances this year.”
The most intense match was at the No. 2 spot where Aggies sophomore Jorge Bartra battled against Zak Talic. Bartra lost the first set 6-4 before battling back in the second set to force a tiebreaker set. He finally succumb to his adversary 7-6 after coming up short 10-2 in the tiebreaker.
Another intense match was between Aggies redshirt sophomore Hayden Faulkenbury and Lawrence Perrin in the No. 4 position. Faulkenbury competed in a lengthy match with Perrin before Perrin outlasted Faulkenbury's effort, 6-4, 6-2.
The Chanticleers earend the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
The Aggies will remain in the state of South Carolina, traveling south to face the Colloege of Charleston 1 p.m., Sunday.
