GREENSBORO (March 27, 2017) – North Carolina A&T men's tennis team went up against UC Riverside, but came up short 5-2 at Aggie Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon. N.C. A&T was able to capture points at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, but could not secure the overall victory.
In doubles competition, Nicolas Arduh and Niko Barr defeated the Highlanders 7-6 (7-2) in the No. 1 position, but wins for UC Riverside in the final two doubles matches earned them the overall doubles point. Jorge Bartra and John Wilson IV came up short 6-2 at No. 2 and Jordan Lawrence and Brett Caban also fell 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.
Wilson IV clinched the first Aggies point of the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Tadeas Lansky in the No. 3 singles and Barr followed closely behind at No. 4 with a slight 7-6, 7-5 edge over Nabil Abdallah. The Highlanders were able to put away the other doubles points, however as Arduh came up short at No. 1 (6-1, 6-3) and Bartra fell in three (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) at No. 2. Caban was defeated at No. 5 (0-6, 6-7, 5-7) and Lawrence lost at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).
The Aggie men's team will join the women as they resume Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition and take on N.C. Central on Tues. March 28 at Barber Park. The women's match begins at 12 p.m., followed by the men at 2 p.m.
