MURFREESBORO (March 24, 2017) – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team had a tough 7-0 loss to Chowan on Friday, dropping the Aggies to 0-10 on the season. The day started with doubles competition as N.C. A&T's Niko Barr and Nicolas Arduh lost to Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov 8-3. Brett Caban and Jordan Lawrence then teamed together and battled Rafael Goncalves and Louis Proulx to an 8-5 defeat. The only win of the day for the Aggies came at No. 2 doubles as John Wilson IV and Adair Bartra came together to beat Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh, 9-8 with a 9-1 win in the tiebreaker. It was their first win together in five tries.
Singles competition began with the Arduh falling to Kaliakperov, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position. Bartra then took a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Farid Hajizada at No. 2 singles. Barr lost Goncalves at No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-4 before Wilson put together the Aggies most competitive singles match against Chowan as Wilson lost to Izycki in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Aggies lost at No. 6 before Caban was also competitive at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) loss to Yeh.
N.C. A&T will start a busy week next week as they face UC Riverside Monday at 3 p.m., at the Aggie Tennis Complex. The next day the Aggies face North Carolina Central at the Aggie Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
