TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 10, 2016) – North Carolina A&T softball's three-game series against defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Florida A&M ended in defeat at Lady Rattler Softball Complex on Sunday with an 8-0 loss. The Rattlers (21-20) remain undefeated against MEAC opponents at 9-0 while the Aggies dropped to 13-23 overall and 2-7 in the MEAC.
Runs in the fifth inning for Florida A&M capped off scoring for the day and successfully ended the matchup early. A double in the first scored two runs followed by a triple to end the inning with a 3-0 Rattler lead. The home team would score again in the fourth after putting the first four batters on base closing the inning with three more runs. The final two runs of the day came on a wild pitch and fielder's choice. Starting pitcher Janika May pitched through the first four innings before Zadaisha Waddell came in to finish the game in the fifth.
The Aggies struggled to get anything going on offense. The only hit for the Aggies came on a single from Jillian Nobles in the second. Defensively, N.C. A&T escaped a bases loaded situation in the second when Whitin Farris singled, but advanced on an error by second baseman Lauren Dunlow. Two walks and sacrifice bunt put three runners on base with two outs. However, a popup to shortstop Alejandra Barcenas ended the inning.
N.C. A&T looks to end the current nine-game losing streak when they return to Lady Aggies Softball Complex for a doubleheader against Western Carolina on Wednesday. Game 1 will start at 3 p.m.
