GREENSBORO – The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) revealed its softball weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, and for the first time this season, the conference included a North Carolina A&T player.
Sophomore Trinity Glover, recognized as CAA Co-Player of the Week, shared the accolade with Delaware's Morgan Hess. Glover had an outstanding weekend series against CAA and HBCU rival Hampton. She recorded seven RBIs, scored three runs, and posted a .727 slugging percentage at the Pirates Softball Stadium over the weekend.
"I'm excited for Trinity. She has been hitting the ball very well. It is a great achievement for our softball team because she is the first one this year. I'm so happy for her. Great job," said head coach Jose Gonzalez Jr.
On Saturday, Glover hit a three-run homer over the right-field fence in the sixth inning to give the Aggies an 8-0 lead, putting them in range to run-rule the Pirates, which they eventually did by winning 9-1win in six innings. Glover also scored twice in the game. A&T's Saturday win evened the series at 1-1.
The Aggies won the series behind Glover going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored in a 16-0 win in five innings. Glover had a double and a single. Her two-run RBI double was a part of an eight-run first inning before she belted a two-run single in the fifth to give the Aggies a 14-0 lead.
Glover heads into this week's series against the College of Charleston batting .309 with a team-leading seven home runs. She also leads the team in slugging percentage (.654). The Aggies' three-game series against Charleston will be their last three games of the season.
Game 1 is at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex on Thursday, May 1 at 2 p.m. Game 2 is Friday at 2 p.m., and Sunday will serve as Senior Day as the Aggies will honor senior Joey Barkhimer before 1 p.m.'s game.
