GREENSBORO – Senior Joey Barkhimer ended her North Carolina A&T softball career with another postseason honor from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
The CAA released its postseason softball honors on Tuesday with Barkhimer earning second-team All-CAA honors as a utility player. It marked the second straight season Barkhimer earned second-team accolades as a utility player.
It marked the fourth time in A&T's three-year membership in the CAA that the Aggies have had a second team player. Including Barkhimer's two honors, Megan Ellis and Jai Deese earned second-team CAA honors in 2023.
Barkhimer truly became a do-it-all player for the Aggies. She played in 48 of A&T's 50 games during the season. As an offensive threat, she led the Aggies in RBIs with 27. She also excelled with the power numbers, posting seven doubles, five home runs, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .732. Barkhimer's .446 ranked third on the team.
Without question, she logged a crazy amount of innings in the circle. She threw a career-high 120 innings and faced an incredible 642 batters. She posted a career-best 86 strikeouts, with 21 of those strikeouts coming on a third called strike. She had a 6.07 ERA and finished 5-16 in the circle.
In the CAA, she ranked sixth in pitching appearances (31), seventh in games started (20), eighth in complete games (8), and ninth in innings pitched. The Aggies honored Barkhimer last Saturday in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. In addition to ending her career with two second-team all-conference honors, Barkhimer's career also ends with 51 RBIs, 11 home runs and 11 doubles.
As a pitcher, Barkhimer pitched 353.2 innings, posted a 4.99 ERA and had 209 strikeouts. She also faced 1,809 batters in 96 appearances and 55 starts.
