Aggies Face Tough ACC Foe In Loss

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech attempted 40 more free throws than the North Carolina A&T men's basketball team in a 90-60 win over the Aggies Tuesday night at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies (3-1) also benefited by going 25-for-39 (.641) from 2-point range. Senior Bruce Beckford led the Aggies (0-6) with 14 points and four rebounds. Ahmad Abdullah added eight points and three assists.  The Aggies will try to break into the win column on Saturday, Nov. 28 when they had to Fargo, N.D., to face North Dakota State. N.C. A&T will then return home on Monday, Nov. 30 to face Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m.

Ede Egharevba helped the Aggies keep pace early as his jump shot gave the Aggies a 7-4 lead five minutes into the contest. The Hokies tied the game at 7 on a Seth Allen free throw. Chris Clarke gave the Hokies their first lead of the game, 9-7, on a layup. Junior college transfer Mike Owona quickly gave the Aggies the lead back as he followed an Egharevba miss and was fouled. His 3-point play gave the Aggies a 10-9 lead with 12:41 to play in the first half.

Virginia Tech took over from there. Clarke led a 10-0 Hokies spurt by scoring six points during the run. Redshirt sophomore Sam Hunt ended the run with a jump shot, but the Hokies scored the next six points to take a 25-12 lead with 8:33 to play in the first half. The Hokies took their biggest lead of the first half as a Justin Bibbs' 3-pointer gave the Hokies a 38-18 lead with 4:44 remaining.

Egharevba helped the Aggies get the lead down to 13 toward the end of the first half before an Allen free throw gave the Hokies a 46-32 halftime lead. A 17-2 run in the second half put the Aggies away as the Hokies took a 68-41 at the 13:39 mark.

Zach LeDay led the Hookies with 26 points and 12 rebounds on 8-for-14 shooting. Clarke added 14 points and eight rebounds.
