Aggies Stay Alive, Defeat UMES

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - North Carolina A&T sent 10 players to the plate in the second inning, and Nick Oelker struck out eight in a 11-1 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in a MEAC Baseball Tournament elimination game at Jackie Robinson Park.

The Aggies (21-33) advanced to face Delaware State Friday morning at 10. Delaware State lost to Norfolk State earlier in the day.

N.C. A&T scored 10 of their 11 runs over the first three innings. Three extra base hits and two UMES errors in the second inning led to six of the Aggies runs. Mark Nales led the inning with a triple down the left line. Stefan Jordan followed with a single to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead. Carvell Copeland doubled home Jordan to add another run.

Marquis Riley provided the Aggies third extra base hit with a double that scored Copeland. After a Xavier Macklin walk, Dairio Little singled through the left side to score Riley and Macklin as the Aggies took a 6-1 lead.

Andre McKoy assisted in putting away the Hawks. With Jordan on second, McKoy hit a line drive to center field. UMES center fielder Tre-von Johnson made a diving attempt to make the catch. But his dive came up short and the ball rolled to the warning track. McKoy raced around the bases for an inside the park home run as the Aggies to an 8-1 lead. Tendler added an RBI double in the inning to put the Aggies up comfortably.

After a rough first inning, Oelker (8-3) settled in and pitched an outstanding game. He went eight solid innings, gave up one run and surrendered just three hits. Elliott Alston led the Hawks with a 1-for-3 performance with an RBI. UMES' season comes to an end at 9-41. Tyler Witte (1-9) took the loss.

Luke Tendler led the Aggies by going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Stefan Jordan added three hits as the Aggies won all four games they played against UMES this season.
