A&T Splits With Longwood for the 2nd Straight Day

GREENSBORO - North Carolina A&T wasted little time in earning redemption after losing 9-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. The Aggies scored seven runs in the first inning to defeat Longwood 10-4 at War Memorial Stadium.

Carvell Copeland went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in Game 1. Freshman Luke Tendler added a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Dairio Little started the scoring for N.C. A&T. He singled to left field to plate two runners - Copeland and Marquis Riley. Tendler followed with his third of home run of the season, a powerful blow over the left center field wall. Freeman kept the Aggie assault in effect. He singled up the middle before Xavier Macklin singled to left field.

Longwood starter Cory Ramsey assisted the Aggies in taking a 5-0 lead when unleashed a wild pitch on ball four to Mark Nales. Freeman scored on the play for the five-run advantage. Copeland closed out the first-inning scoring with a two-run RBI single up the middle to score Nales and Macklin.

The Aggies picked up two more runs in the second as Macklin hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field as an earlier walk to Marquis Riley benefited the Aggies. An error by Longwood second baseman Brant Jones mishandled a Nales groundball, which led to Little scoring to give the Aggies a 9-0 lead.

Garrett Braun (2-4), who normally comes out of the bullpen, matched his outing earlier this season against Villanova. Braun pitched the entire seven innings of the game, struck out nine and threw only 89 pitches.

In the first game, Riley and Nales had two hits apiece for N.C. A&T. Brent Moore (2-6) took the loss. The Aggies (14-25) travel to Blacksburg, Va., to play Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m.
