TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Carolina A&T softball's first trip into the world of television have end result the Aggies wanted, but the experience and exposure was worth the journey.
N.C. A&T ran into a troublesome second inning in a 12-4 loss to Florida A&M at the Lady Rattler Complex on Friday. The game was played live on ESPNU. The pregame show centered around the Aggies lone senior Ryanne Hill.
Hill was introduced as the Aggies leader who uses her power to be effective. Hill also introduced the Aggies starting lineup before the start of the game. Minutes later, the Aggies went on to grab a 1-0 lead when a throwing error allowed Tiffany Macklin to score. FAMU returned the favor in its half of the first as a throwing error led to two runs to give the Rattlers a 2-1 lead.
The Aggies' bats earned them their run in the second. Detavia Kenan led the inning with a slap single. Lauren Clement followed with another single, which was complemented by a Dominique Smith sacrifice bunt. Macklin used the sacrifice bunt to tie the game at 2 as her fly ball into right field scored Kenan on a sacrifice fly.
But the bottom of the second broke the game open for the Rattlers. After a Jasmin Donaldson single, Ashanti Shepherd reached on a throwing error that placed runners on second and third. Francesca Singletary scored Donaldson on a sacrifice fly. Genesis Lopez delivered the biggest shot of the six-run inning with a three-run RBI double to left center to give FAMU an 8-2 lead.
Macklin led the Aggies with two RBIs. Morgan Chappell and Sabrina Edmonds recorded two hits apiece. Hope Fletcher took the loss, while Whitney Robinson picked up the win. Robinson and Lopez had three RBIs for FAMU. The two teams will play again on Saturday in a 1 p.m., doubleheader.
