DURHAM - The North Carolina A&T tennis team concluded its season on Sunday with a 7-0 loss to N.C. Central at the N.C. Central Tennis Courts.
The most compelling match of the day for the Aggies occurred at the No. 3 singles. Cross was able to dominate in the first set and took the match 6-2. N.C. Central's Fredrica Lombard turned the match in her favor during the second set by defeating Cross 6-2. The two then staged a back-and-forth grudge match in the third. After being down match point three times, Cross fought back each time. Finally, Cross' return of Lombard's serve came up short as Lombard won the marathon 16-14.
The Eagles also took the doubles point. Oleysa Palko and Cameran Chatman were able to defeat Azeib Nigatu and Cross 8-4 in the first doubles. The Eagles eased past the Aggies in the final two doubles contests.
The Aggies end the season with a 1-14 mark overall and 0-4 in the MEAC. Victorea Martin and Cayla Cross led the Aggies in wins with two apiece. N.C. A&T will miss the MEAC tournament for the first time in two years.
