Oelker, McKoy Lead Aggies to Game 2 Win

GREENSBORO - Senior Nick Oelker had another solid outing and sophomore Andre McKoy smacked his first career home run to lead the North Carolina A&T baseball team to an 8-3 win over Savannah State in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. The Aggies lost the first game 6-5.

McKoy went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the second game. Xavier Macklin was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. N.C. A&T began to take control of Game 2 in the third inning. The inning gained momentum when Carvell Copeland laid down a bunt with runners on first and second. Savannah State pitcher Michael Allegretti picked up the ball and attempted to throw out Mark Nales going to third.

Nales slid in safely to load the bases. McKoy singled to right field to put the Aggies on the board as Nales scored to put the Aggies in a 3-1 deficit. Macklin scored two more runners with a single to center field that tied the game at 3. Luke Tendler closed out the five-run inning with a two-run RBI double to left field that scored Macklin and Marquis Riley.

N.C. A&T added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by McKoy's two-run homer to left field that gave the Aggies a  7-3 lead.

After a tough start, Oelker was solid over the final four innings of the contest. He retired the Tigers in order over the  final two innings to improve to 2-1 on the season. Oelker struck out seven over seven innings. His performance follows a shutout performance last week against New Jersey Tech.

The Aggies had a handle on doubleheader sweep of the Tigers as they led 5-2 going into the ninth. But the Tigers rallied against N.C. A&T starter Esterlin Paulino. The biggest blow was a pinch-hit three-run homer off the bat of Dondregius Jackson against reliever Tyler Boone. Jackson's homer gave the Tigers a one-run lead going into the home ninth.

Eric Ransom retired the Aggies in order to pick up the save. Kevin Herlihy (1-2) got the win, while Boone (0-1) took the loss. Dairio Little had three hits and three RBIs in the first game.
