SUMTER, S.C. - The North Carolina A&T women's tennis team went into its match with Norfolk State fighting for a spot in the 2011 MEAC Tournament. The Aggies had several matches go the distance before falling to the Spartans 6-1 at the MEAC Tennis Roundup.
Nianna Henry won the Aggies only match of the day as she defeated Ashley Foster at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-1. It was Henry's first victory of the season. The match, however, turned on the No. 2 and No. 4 singles matches. Kimberly Stallings went three sets with NSU's No. 2 Gabriella Jonsson.
Stalling took the first set 6-4 before Jonsson took the final two sets 6-3, 6-3. Victorea Austin also went three sets. She won her first set 6-3, but opponent Chenge Tsapayi won the final two sets to turn the contest in the Spartans' favor.
The Spartans took the doubles point by sweeping the Aggies in all three matches. The Aggies also endured a 6-0 loss to Bethune-Cookman to fall to 0-2 in the MEAC.
