SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sophomore Kelvin Freeman hit his second home run of the season, and freshman Luke Tendler recorded three RBIs in a 12-7 loss to S.C. Upstate Wednesday night at Harley Park.
The Aggies fell behind 10-3 over the first four innings of the game. A comeback was sparked by a two-out single by sophomore Mark Nales. After Reggie Washington walked, Ryan Carlton singled up the middle to score Nales. Washington later scored on a wild pitch to move the Aggies to within three runs at 10-5.
Tendler moved the Aggies even closer in the seventh. His two-run RBI double down the right field line scored Xavier Macklin and Dario Little to put the Spartans lead at 10-7. The Spartans added some cushion in the home eighth, however.
Two walks to open the inning were compounded by a wild pitch that put two Spartans in scoring position. Tyler Miller grounded out to score Grason Wiggins. The Spartans took a five-run lead on a wild pitch as Dillon Way scored.
N.C. A&T (1-4) was retired in order in the ninth. Miller led the Spartans (3-2) by going 3-for-5 with five RBIs, a home run and two runs scored. Sophomore Dustin Myers (0-1) took the loss for the Aggies, while Andrew Wyatt picked up the win for the Spartans.
The Aggies return to action Saturday when they play a 1 p.m., doubleheader against New Jersey Institute of Technology at War Memorial Stadium.
