Sharing Helps Aggies Beat J&W

GREENSBORO - North Carolina A&T used its opportunity to be heavily favored to distribute the basketball on Wednesday night. The giving and sharing helped the Aggies defeat Johnson & Wales 108-55 at Corbett Sports Center.

The Aggies dished out 28 assists led by senior guard Marc Hill who finished with 11 points, eight assists and three steals. Junior Lawrence Smith added 17 points and six rebounds, while senior Kam Shepherd ended the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The win marked the first time the Aggies have been over 100 points since Nov. 16, 2010. It was also the biggest blowout win of head coach Jerry Eaves' nine-year tenure.

"I think it was the best ball movement we've had," said Eaves. "We played a lesser opponent who had a few of their players hurt tonight, so the game wasn't as competitive as it could have been, but I think it was the best our team has ever shared the ball.   In a game where you could see selfishness, you saw absolutely none.  I was really proud of them."

It didn't take long for the Aggies to take dominate the smaller Wildcats. N.C. A&T already had 20 points in the first 4 ½ minutes of the game thanks to a 12-2 run led by Smith and Hill who had five points apiece during the spurt that gave N.C. A&T a 20-7 lead.

The Aggies pushed their lead to 20 at the 10-minute mark on a Shepherd put back. By the end of the half, the Aggies held a comfortable 30-point lead. The Wildcats (0-9) were led by Southern Guilford graduate DeShuan Alston who had 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line.

The Aggies will continue to play around the Thanksgiving Holiday when they face Barber Scotia Friday night at 7 from Corbett.

"We're going to try to get to 3-3 on Friday," said Eaves. "We're going to take tomorrow off and have Thanksgiving dinner at the house, and have all the players over and we'll enjoy ourselves."
