Biography

Breakdown:  Had another stellar season in the Aggies secondary, while also having a breakout season as a return man...Will go down as one of the best athletes to play at N.C. A&T...He is exceptional at making tackles in the open field...His interception numbers were down in 2010 because teams  didn't try to test him as much...It could have cost him first-team all-conference honors at safety...Where he really earned notoriety in 2010 was in the return game...Used a designed kickoff return play to return three kicks for touchdowns, while establishing himself as one of the best return men in the country...Had a breakout year in 2009 from the safety position...After focusing mostly on being the Aggies kickoff returner in 2008, Ferrell started at cornerback to open the season...Weeks later, the coaches decided to utilize his great speed and tackling ability by moving him to strong safety...The move resulted in him being named first-team All-MEAC...Coaches value his presence because he is a playmaker who always seems to be in the right place at the right time...He is a member of an experienced secondary with depth...Ferrell is listed as the Aggies No.1 free safety heading into camp...In 33 games played, he has made 119 tackles, six interceptions and recovered two fumbles...As kick returner, he has accumulated 1,174 yards on 52 kickoff returns.

2010 Season: Played in 11 games with 11 starts...Ranked third on the team with 78 tackles...Had the most solo tackles on the team with 57...Ferrell also broke up two passes and recovered a fumble...In the return game, returned 26 kicks for an average 26.7 yards per return and three touchdowns...His three returns for touchdowns broke a single-season school record previously set by Brian Rodman in 1992...Led the MEAC in kickoff return average and ranked 19th nationally...After the third week of the season, he was leading the nation in kickoff return average...Finished tied for 12th in the conference in tackles per game (7.1), and there were only two other players in the conference with more solo tackles...Earned first-team All-MEAC honors as a kick returner and was also named second-team all-conference at the safety position...Had five games where he earned double-figure tackles...Made seven solo tackles and three assisted tackles in the Aggies opener versus Winston-Salem State on Sept. 4...In the same game, returned a WSSU kickoff 76 yards in the fourth quarter to give the Aggies a 14-13 lead...Returned the next week and made 10 tackles against Norfolk State...Recorded an 85-yard kickoff return against Hampton in the second quarter...His effort earned the first of his two MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors...Made a career-high 15 tackles against Tennessee State at the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis on Oct. 2...Returned his third kickoff of the season when he went 90 yards against Morgan State on Oct. 9...The return earned MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades along with College Football Performance Award Returner of the Week honors...Posted 10 tackles in a 22-19 overtime loss to Florida A&M on Nov. 6.

2009 Season: Put together one of the best seasons for a defensive back in school history...Made big play after big play from his strong safety position...Played in 10 games with 10 starts...Led the MEAC in interceptions with six...His six picks were the second-best mark in school history...Led all N.C. A&T secondary players with 37 tackles...Became the first Aggie defensive back to earn first-team All-MEAC honors since Montrail Pittman made the team in 2002...Started the season by making five solo tackles and a pass break-up against Winston-Salem State on Sept. 5...Ferrell picked off two passes against N.C. Central on Oct. 3...His first-quarter interception at the NCCU 38 led to a 1-yard touchdown by Tony Coles...He returned his other interception in the game 21 yards to the NCCU 35...It led to a 34-yard field goal by Patrick Courtney...Intercepted two more passes against Howard on Oct. 24...Both interceptions were made at the N.C. A&T 1-yard line in the fourth quarter as they halted two prime scoring opportunities for the Bison in a 30-19 Aggies win.

2008 Season: Played in 12 games with no starts...Returned 19 kicks for an average of 19.8 per return...Also made four tackles on the season...Had a 39-yard kickoff return against Johnson C. Smith that gave the Aggies the ball at the Golden Bulls' 47-yard line...Returned a kick 39 yards in the fourth quarter at Bethune-Cookman that gave the Aggies a first down at the Wildcats' 46-yard line.

High School: Earned second-team Western Valley District performer in area rich with football talent...Was also outstanding in track and field.
