GREENVILLE, NC – Junior North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University men's golfer Ignacio Zapata shot 2-under 142 over the first two rounds of the 2026 Ironwood Classic hosted by East Carolina University at the par-72, 7,120-yard Ironwood Golf Course on Monday, looking to build on his top-five finish at Davidson College's tournament last week.

Zapata is tied for 10^th heading into Tuesday's final round. A&T is sixth after a 7-over 583 through two rounds on Monday. Play was suspended in the second round before Zapata finished his final hole. Play will resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. The Aggies shot even par in the first round and went into the clubhouse in fourth place. Their 7-over second round has them 18 shots off the lead behind the Georgetown Hoyas before tournament officials suspended play. The Hoyas shot an incredible 13-under 275 in the second round to take the tournament lead.

They lead by three shots over Old Dominion and High Point, who are tied for second at 8-under 568. ODU's Joe McPherson leads the tournament at 9-under 135, ahead of NCCU's Iszac Bertagnole and HPU's Jace Duckworth, who are tied for second at 136. Junior Jordan Williams, playing as an individual, shot even par in both rounds and is tied for 17th with eight others. Junior Javier Morgado shot 1-over 145 over two rounds.

Zapata started his first round on the par-3, 213-yard eighth with a double bogey. He then bogeyed No. 9. It was smooth sailing from there. He birdied the par-4, 451-yard 10^th before connecting on par putts over his next three holes. He carded another birdie on the par-4, 382-yard 14^th and moved to even par for the round with a birdie putt on the 568-yard, par-5 16^th. He went on another streak of par putts, making five straight until he arrived at the 569-yard par-5 fourth and drained another birdie to move to 1-under.

He finished the final three holes with two pars and a birdie on the par-4, 416-yard sixth. Round 2 began with a bogey on eight, then four straight pars before a birdie on the par-5, 574-yard 13^th. Zapata birdied 16 again, added five pars, then bogeyed four and five before another birdie on No. 6.

Williams birdied his opening hole at No. 16 and added birdies at the par-4, 397-yard first and the 451-yard par-4 10th. He bogeyed No. 4, 6, and 7 before a double bogey on No. 11. He recovered with birdies on the 413-yard par-4 12^th and the 434-yard par-4 15^th. He started Round 2 in the same way he started the opening round with a birdie on 16.

He made amends on No. 7 with a birdie on the par-5, 512-yard hole, and he made a birdie on 13. Morgado made seven birdies over the first two rounds and shot 1-under on the back nine during the second round. Sophomore Emilio Hernandez did not finish the final two holes of his second round, but shot 73 in the first round. Junior Pedro Pereira shot 72 in his first round and is one hole shy of completing his second round. Sophomore John Thompson shot 73 in his first round and is awaiting the completion of his second round.
