DAVIDSON, NC – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University junior men's golfer
Ignacio Zapata added another top-five finish to his collegiate credentials on Tuesday, tying for fourth at the River Run Collegiate at the par 72, 7,317-yard River Run Golf Course.
Zapata was in contention for the River Run title after the first day and first two rounds before finishing with a three-round 71-68-75—214. He finished 2-under with Youngstown State's Ryan Sam, four shots behind Presbyterian College medalist Spence Hagood. Marshall's Jackson Woodburn and East Carolina's Luke Mosley tied for second at 3-under.
A&T was also in contention after the first day and two rounds at River Run. The Aggies shot 6-under 570 to lead before posting a final-round 27-over 315 and finishing seventh at 283-286-315 (21-over 885). Presbyterian College won the 2026 River Run Collegiate championship at 5-over 869, one shot ahead of Davidson, while ECU and Dayton tied for third at 10-over 874.
After the three-round tournament, A&T junior
Javier Morgado finished in a six-way tie for 21
st with a 70-73-79 (6-over 222). He made six birdie putts over the first two rounds, including birdies on the par-5, 548-yard 18
th, the par-5, 537-yard sixth, and the par-4, 457-yard ninth in the first round. He had only one bogey in that round.
Morgado started the second round on the par-4, 430-yard 13
th and made par on his first six holes. He then birdied the 527-yard par-5 second and the 456-yard par-4 fourth to move to 2-under for the round and 4-under for the tournament. Three straight bogeys on holes 7-9 followed before another birdie at the 428-yard par-4 10
th.
Morgado ended his round with a bogey putt and a par putt to enter the third round at 1-under 143. He shot 79 to conclude his time at River Run. Meanwhile, Zapata also had a first round with very few bogeys. He made only one bogey on his first 18 holes while carding birdies on No. 10 and the par-5, 579-yard 12
th. Zapata's second round put him in contention to win the tournament. He started on hole No. 13 with a par before birdieing the par-3, 177-yard 14
th. After a bogey on 15, he parred the next two holes before sinking a birdie putt on the 18
th. Zapata played an unbelievable front nine after making the turn.
It started with a birdie on the 407-yard par-4 first. He made par on the next three holes before birdieing No. 5. Zapata then made eagle on No. 6 to move to 5-under for the round and 6-under for the tournament. He shot 32 on the front nine and stayed at 6-under before bogeying No. 10.
Zapata closed the round with two straight par putts to enter the clubhouse as the leader at 5-under. Even though he shot 75 in the final round, he still made three birdie putts. Junior
Pedro Pereira and senior
Camilo Marin also finished in the top 50 for A&T. Pereira shot 74-73-81 (12-over 228), and Marin shot 68-81-80 (13-over 229). Marin made four birdie putts during the first round.
Junior
Jordan Williams shot 74-73-83 (230). The Aggies will transition quickly to their next tournament as they open play at East Carolina's Ironwood Collegiate Classic at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, NC.
