A&T Men's Cross Country Team Wins at Livingstone Meet

Deavion Deleon won her first career cross country race with her win in Salisbury, NC on Friday.

SALISBURY, NC – The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University cross country teams had impressive showings Friday at the Blue Bear XC Invitational hosted by Livingstone College at the Salisbury Community Park XC Course.

The A&T men's cross country team won the event with a total time of 1:33.30, with sophomore Demonte Peterson taking medalist honors by winning the 5k race with a personal-best 17:25.3. Peterson finished almost 20 seconds ahead of second-place Geremiah DelValle of Regent University. Peterson had an average mile of 5:36.4.

The Aggie men finished a little more than six seconds better than Livingstone's time as they scored 31 points. The Blue Bears finished second with 56 points. On the women's side, graduate Deavion Deleon took medalist honors for A&T. Deleon completed the 3k event in 10:57.9.

A&T's women finished second behind Winston-Salem State University as the Aggies ran a combined time of 1:01.15. A&T scored 37 points with an average time of 12:15. The Rams won the event with 30 points. The Rams had two runners finish behind Deleon in second and third respectively in Rainn Sheppard (11:28.2) and Ann Badawi (11:40.9).

Deleon's sophomore teammate Aniyah Francis placed fourth with a time of 12:00.1. A&T sophomore Kendall McPhatter also finished in the top 10, finishing in eighth place in 12:29.9. It marked a personal 3k record for McPhatter. Sophomores Micah Nunn and Rachel Tolbert also scored for the Aggies. Nunn crossed the finish line in 12:43.8 to place 11^th while Tolbert came in 13^th place with a finishing time of 13:03.6.

Meanwhile for Peterson, it was his first career win. Four other Aggies finished in the top 10 behind Peterson. All four ran 5k personal best starting with junior Abishek Pradhan. He ran 18:22.3 to earn his fifth-place finish. Pradhan earned his sixth-place spot by finishing in 18:30.3. The other two Aggies in the top 10 included sophomore Taysaun Wilson and junior Glen Stiles. Wilson placed ninth with a time of 19:33.0. Stiles finished just seconds behind him in 10^th place, running a19:39.6.

The Aggies will return to Salisbury in two weeks to compete in the Chicknlegs XC Throwdown hosted by Catawba College at the Salisbury Community Park on Sept. 26.
