BUIES CREEK, NC – North Carolina A&T endured its second straight loss to the No. 1 baseball team in the Coastal Athletic Association's (CAA) Southern Division, the Campbell Fighting Camels.
The Camels defeated the Aggies 8-0 at Jim Perry Stadium on Saturday. Not only did the Aggies face one of the best teams in the league, but they also faced one of the best pitchers from the CAA. Right-hander David Rossow (W, 9-1) pitched a five-hitter over 6.2 innings, striking out six and walking two. As a result, Campbell improved to 32-14 overall and 22-4 in league play.
Meanwhile, on the Aggies' side, sophomore
JT Taylor had two of A&T's five hits. The Aggies fell to 12-33 overall and 3-20 in the CAA. Senior RHP
Gavin Sentell (L, 1-8) started for A&T, lasting three innings with three strikeouts and two walks while giving up three earned runs.
Andrew Schultz got the Camels on the board in the second inning with an RBI single. In the third, Joey Morton hit a solo home run, making it 2-0, and later in the inning, Carlos Lugo added an RBI single as part of a two-run frame that pushed the lead to four.
Lugo later added an RBI double in the sixth to extend the Camels' lead to 6-0. In the same frame, Jonah Oster provided an RBI double, and Morton contributed an RBI single, bringing in two more runs. Four Camels recorded multiple hits, while Lugo and Morton had two RBIs each. The series finale is Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium, with first pitch at 1 p.m.
