A&T Completes Three-Game Series With WMU

The Aggies go on the road to face Winthrop on Tuesday.

GREENSBORO – Despite facing strong Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) lineups, the North Carolina A&T baseball team has generated solid offense this season.

That changed on Sunday at War Memorial Stadium, where William & Mary completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies with a 9-0 victory. A&T falls to 11-31 overall and 3-18 in the CAA. Three Tribe pitchers limited the Aggies to four hits. William & Mary improved to 19-23 overall and 10-11 in conference play.

Before Sunday's game started, the two teams had to complete Saturday's game after it ended in the eighth inning because of a rain downpour over The War. WMU led 18-7 when the game ended. The Tribe added three more runs when the game resumed on Sunday, beating the Aggies 21-7 in eight innings. Senior Nick DiCarlo led the Aggies by going 2-for-5 with a run scored. DiCarlo, sophomore Bruce Wyche, and senior Kristian Amaro had two RBIs apiece.

Sunday began promisingly for the Aggies. Graduate right-hander Angel Ortiz (L, 0-3) held the Tribe scoreless through the first two innings. In the third, the Tribe capitalized. Charlie Iriotakis singled home a run, and Witt Scafidi followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead. The Aggies threatened in the bottom half with two-out singles from DiCarlo and Wyche. JT Walker drew a walk to load the bases, but junior Marcus Bradshaw flew out to center, ending the rally.

Ortiz settled in the fourth, yielding a hit but no runs. He allowed consecutive singles in the fifth but escaped the inning with a strikeout and a flyout, keeping the Tribe at three runs. The Tribe broke through in the sixth with a two-out double by Jamie Laskofski. Ortiz exited for graduate RHP Diego Barrett, who walked Iriotakis, then allowed Matthew Kosuda's two-run single to extend the Tribe's lead to 5-0.

WMU added three more runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth. LHP Tom Bourque (W, 4-2) pitched four scoreless innings without giving up a hit. The Aggies return to action on Tuesday, April 28, when they travel to Rock Hill, SC, to face the Winthrop Eagles. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
