GREENSBORO – Two weeks after Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) head coaches voted her CAA Preseason Player of the Year, North Carolina A&T sophomore outside hitter Tyne Ross followed up the humongous accolade by claiming her first CAA Offensive Player of the Week honor of the 20025 season.
The conference announced its weekly honors on Monday. Ross led the Aggies to a 2-0 record during the season-opening Aggie/Phoenix Invitational co-hosted by the A&T and Elon University programs.
Ross started the season by leading the Aggies to a four-set win over Bethune-Cookman on Friday at Corbett Sports Center. Ross posted 20 kills and nine digs, three total blocks, and two service aces. She finished the match strong, totaling nine kills on 24 total attacks for a .292 hitting percentage to lead the Aggies to wins in the third and fourth sets.
She followed her Friday performance with 23 kills, nine digs, two total blocks, and an ace in A&T's thrilling five-set win over Coppin State at Corbett. Ross led the Aggies to a third-set win with eight kills and a .353 hitting percentage. That was followed up by four kills, three digs, and a block in the fifth and deciding set.
"Tyne had a really good start to the season," said A&T head volleyball coach Hal Clifton. "But I'm very proud of how she trained during the preseason. It's nice that she was recognized for her efforts this weekend."
A year ago, Ross won four CAA Rookie of the Week honors and one CAA Offensive Player of the Week honor on her way to winning CAA Rookie of the Year. During the opening week of 2025, she averaged 4.78 kills and 2.0 digs in nine sets played. She also posted a .298 percentage over the weekend.
The Aggies return to action at 6 p.m., Thursday, September 4, as they travel to Clemson, SC, to face the ACC's Clemson Tigers at Jervey Gym. They will play the Tigers again on Friday, starting at 6 p.m.
