GREENSBORO – The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Football Conference named North Carolina A&T junior linebacker Joshua Iseah CAA Defensive Player of the Week. He then gave most of the credit to his teammates.
Iseah is the first Aggie to capture defensive player of the week honors from the CAA since BJ Turner earned the accolade on October 2, 2023. In addition to winning CAA Defensive Player of the Week, he also gained national recognition as Stats Perform named him an honorable mention FCS National Defensive Player of the Week, along with eight other players.
Iseah, who mostly played as an edge rusher in his first two seasons in Aggieland, started on Saturday at Tennessee State University (TSU) as A&T's weak-side linebacker. He looked fantastic doing it. He led the Aggies with 10 tackles, including five unassisted and three for loss. Iseah's second-quarter interception gave the Aggies 1st-and-10 at the TSU 33-yard line.
The Aggies eventually turned that turnover into a 1-yard touchdown run by redshirt freshman quarterback Braxton Thomas. But Iseah says there was more to that play than meets the eye.
"I give credit to Marquis Hood on that play," said Iseah. "He got great penetration on that and made the quarterback get rid of it faster than he wanted to. The only thing I was worried about at that point was catching it."
Ten tackles are the most Iseah has had since recording 13 tackles in a 28-14 loss to Campbell at Truist Stadium on November 18, 2023. His three tackles for loss are a career high. Sports Illustrated named Iseah a FCS Freshman All-American in 2023. He made 59 tackles as a freshman, including five for loss. He has 100 career tackles heading into A&T's contest with UCF on Saturday at 7 p.m., in Orlando, Fla.
"It's about everyone doing their job," said Iseah. "Once defensive linemen do their jobs and the defensive backs do their jobs, it's my job to make the tackles when I have the opportunity."
