GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T men's basketball team has won three out of its last four games, and on Monday, the team was awarded for its recent winning ways. The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) named Jahnathan Lamothe its co-player of the week, marking the first time the Aggies have received a weekly award from the conference this season.
In addition, Lamothe was selected as one of five Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honorees by the USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association) on Tuesday
Lamothe became the first Aggie in program history to earn the national recognition and the fourth CAA player to capture the honor this season. The Baltimore, Md., product joined Monmouth teammates Abdi Bashir Jr. (Nov. 19) and Madison Durr (Feb. 4) as well as UNCW's Bo Montgomery (Jan. 29).
"I'm really happy for Jahn that his hard work is paying off," said A&T head coach Monté Ross. "The success of the team ensures the success of the individual."
The team certainly had a successful week with home wins over Campbell on Thursday and Stony Brook on Saturday. It marked A&T's first back-to-back wins since beating The Citadel on November 17 and Morgan State on November 20.
Lamothe averaged 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in those contests while playing 40 minutes in both games.
He scored 25 points, including a clutch 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining, to go with seven rebounds in A&T's 53-50 home win over Campbell. Lamothe followed up with a 23-point, 11-rebound effort in the team's 73-72 win, going 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. Lamothe also tied with Charleston's Ante Brzovic for the league lead in double-doubles with eight.
Lamothe has scored 20 or more points in five straight games. It is the longest streak for an Aggie since Landon Glasper scored 20 or more six consecutive games between January 6, 2024-January 25, 2024. In CAA games only, Lamothe ranks second in the league in rebounding (8.8 rpg) behind sophomore teammate Nikolaos Chitikoudis (9.3 rpg).
On Saturday, A&T's win over Stony Brook marked the team's home finale. The Aggies are on the road for their final two regular-season games when they play at Northeastern on Thursday and at Hofstra on Saturday.
The CAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament is March 7-11 at CareFirst Arena in Washington, DC.
