GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T had an excellent Friday afternoon and evening at War Memorial Stadium. It resulted in a doubleheader sweep of Delaware State, and on Monday, freshman JT Taylor earned Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week accolades.
Taylor batted .571 (4-7) with a double, three triples, four runs scored and five RBIs in A&T's sweep of Delaware State. Taylor went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBIs as the Aggies won the opener, 12-3, and followed in Game 2 by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI triples and a sacrifice fly in a 14-4 victory.
Taylor leads the nation in triples (3) and triples per game (1.5). All three of his RBI triples drove in AJ Jones on Friday. After a pop out in his first at-bat, Taylor got the first of his triples with an RBI triple in the third inning to give the Aggies a 4-2 lead in Game 1. He took a break from triples to record an RBI double in the eighth inning to provide the Aggies with an 11-3 advantage.
In Game 2, his triple came in the third inning when he scored Jones from second base to give the Aggies an early 3-1 lead. He drove in two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI sac flies in each inning.
His final triple of the day came in the home seventh, giving the Aggies a 9-4 lead. He walked on his final appearance of the day and later scored. The Aggies return to action over the weekend when they start play in the Clemson Invitational.
The first game of the invitational is Saturday at noon against the Clemson Tigers at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on the ACC Network. The Aggies will play VCU on Sunday morning at 10 before playing the Tigers again at 2 p.m.
