GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T had an excellent defensive showing in a weekend sweep of William & Mary in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball play at Moore Gymnasium.

Junior Leonor Polezzi reaped the benefits, earning CAA co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.  In helping the Aggies to two wins over the Tribe, Polezzi averaged 3.50 digs, 0.75 blocks per set, and added 11.13 assists per set. In A&T's win over W&M on Saturday, Polezzi had a terrific overall game.

She posted 48 assists, 19 digs, three service aces, and two total blocks. In addition, she had five kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Polezzi's four total blocks highlighted Friday's win over the Tribe. She also added nine digs, three aces and four kills with a .300 hitting percentage.

"We would like to congratulate Leonor for being named as co-defensive player of the week," said A&T head volleyball coach Hal Clifton. "Not only did she average 11 assists per set, but her defense on and off the net was solid. She really did everything this weekend against a very solid William & Mary team. It's not often a setter wins this honor."

Polezzi's athletic ability has helped her win the award twice during her career. The conference also named her co-defensive player of the week on November 4, 2024. The Aggies held the Tribe to a combined .196 hitting percentage over two matches, averaging 2.50 blocks per set.

Polezzi averages 2.69 digs and 0.28 blocks per set this season. But where she is most effective is assisting her teammates. Her 10.02 assists per set leads the CAA and ranks 32nd nationally. She is second in the CAA in total assists with 651.

She and the Aggies return to action on Friday, October 24, when they travel to Elon to face the Elon Phoenix at the Schar Center at 3 p.m.
