BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore hurdler Jason Holmes completed an outstanding indoor track and field season for North Carolina A&T at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships at The Track at New Balance on Friday in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Holmes finished 12th in the semifinals and failed to qualify for the final with a time of 7.74. He will earn second-team All-American accolades.  

Holmes had a fantastic season that saw him at one point become the No. 1 hurdler in the NCAA before going on to win the 60H at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships two weeks ago. 

The 2023-24 indoor season opened with Holmes winning at the Clemson Opener on Dec. 8 with a time of 7.70. It ranked him as the No. 1 60 hurdler in the country. Throughout the season, he battled Northeastern's Ethan Exilhomme for the top spot in the CAA. Exilhomme, who did qualify for the 60H final on Friday, held the top spot most of the season after running a 7.60 on Jan. 14. 

But Holmes kept challenging him throughout the season. Holmes, the 2022-23 CAA indoor rookie of the year after finishing third at the 2023 CAA indoor championships, won the 60 H at the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 20 with a time of 7.72. A week later, he won the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge 60H at 7.66 at the New York Armory. 

It set up his performance at the same place during the 2024 CAA indoors, where he ran a 7.65 to win his first career event conference title. At the time, it was the ninth-fastest time in the country. Holmes became the first Aggie hurdler to qualify for NCAA indoor nationals since Leonard Mustari did it in 2022. Holmes can now look forward to the outdoor season, where he did not participate last season.
