Logan Earns CAA Co-Player of the Week Accolades

Michael Logan batted .625 for week.

GREENSBORO – What does having a good week look like? Senior outfielder Michael Logan has a pretty good idea from a Division I collegiate baseball player's standpoint.

Logan had a gigantic week at the plate for the North Carolina A&T baseball team. He helped the Aggies go 3-1, including a three-game weekend sweep of the George Mason Patriots. His week included a walk-off ninth-inning home run, and he played a vital role in a come-from-behind win.

For his efforts, the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) named Logan its co-player of the week. Logan went 10-for-16 (.625) at the plate with six RBIs, four extra-base hits, and eight runs scored. Logan shared the honor with Campbell's Grant Knipp.

A&T's week opened with an unfortunate 7-1 loss at home to Davidson. Logan went 1-for-3 in the contest. The Aggies then invited the George Mason Patriots to the east side of Greensboro for a three-game weekend series that started with A&T blowing out the Patriots 14-5 on Friday. Logan scored three times and went 2-fo-4 in the victory.

A few fireworks followed over the next two games of the series. With the Aggies trailing 4-2 going into the home ninth inning, Logan's teammate Devon Rodriguez singled before junior outfielder Shemar Dalton battled through a 10-pitch at-bat to single to left field. Logan stepped to the plate and rocketed the first pitch he saw to left field for the game-winning homer, giving the Aggies a 5-4 win.

The Aggies completed the sweep of the Patriots, their third straight home sweep this season, by rallying from a six-run deficit with the help of a six-run eighth inning. Logan scored three times in the game, including in the eighth, and had a 4-for-5 day at the plate, including two doubles and one RBI. Logan's current hitting streak is at seven games.

Logan leads the team in batting (.431). He is second in slugging percentage (.647), second in on-base percentage (.531), second in total bases (33), tied for second in doubles (8), and tied for first in stolen bases (5). League-wide, he ranks sixth in batting average, fourth in doubles per game (0.50), and seventh in on-base percentage. Oddly enough, he ranks second in getting hit by a pitch.

"I'm really happy for Mike," said A&T head coach Ben Hall. "He had an amazing week and weekend. He has worked extremely hard, so the results he is getting right now are not surprising. He is doing a great job preparing each day and capitalizing on opportunities. Stepping up in the moment on Saturday was just one example."

Logan becomes only the third player and the first this season to earn a CAA weekly superlative since the Aggies joined the league two seasons ago. Interestingly, the Aggies have never had a player win a CAA weekly honor outright. Coley Kilpatrick was named co-pitcher week last season, and Tre Williams was named co-player of the week a year ago.
