EAST GREENSBORO – In his first season in a North Carolina A&T baseball uniform, Tre Williams has become the first Aggie in program history to earn a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) weekly honor. On Monday, the conference named Williams its co-player of the week after the Florence Darlington Tech Junior College transfer batted .500 (10-for-20) with five doubles, two home runs, five runs scored and nine RBI in five games.
Seven of his 10 hits were extra-base hits, including a double in all five contests. Williams was 3-for-4 with a double, homer and four RBI at No. 15 North Carolina on Tuesday, March 21. Williams went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBI in a series-opening win over Hofstra.
"Tre had a great week," said Hall. "Starting to really assert himself in the lineup. I thought he came through in some big scenarios, especially with runners on. We really need his consistent presence in the middle of the order week in and week out."
Williams leads the team in batting average at .369 and is on a six-game hitting streak. He ranks 12th in the league in batting, seventh in doubles per game (0.37) and seventh in slugging percentage (.646).
The Aggies went 2-3 last week, including taking two out of three from Hofstra in a CAA baseball series. Williams went 6-for-12 (.500) in the series and totaled 12 bases. The Aggies come into the week 12-12 overall and 5-4 in the CAA. They host Davidson College at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at War Memorial Stadium.
