EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T lost both games of a Saturday softball doubleheader to the Campbell Fighting Camels at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Campbell won Game 1, 6-0, and the second game, 2-0.
In the first game, sophomore S'Nyiah Stinson recorded back-to-back strikeouts to begin the game as she retired the Camels in order in the first inning.
But Stinson ran into trouble in the second. Campbell scored five runs as the first three batters reached via the walk to load the bases.
Lindsey Hunt took advantage by singling down the right field line to drive in two runs for a 2-0 lead.
A wild pitch scored another run before Diana Parker drove in the final two runs of the inning with a two-run RBI single.
Campbell led the sixth inning with a solo home run over the left field fence for the game's final run.
The Aggies recorded their first hit of the game when graduate Jazzmaine Hammond hit a bunt single back to the pitcher in the third inning. Freshman Mariah Headen recorded the Aggies other hit in the fifth.
Stinson (2-7) picked up the loss pitching the first 1.1 innings giving up five runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Junior Kayla Douglas pitched the final 5.2 innings giving up one run on six hits with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Campbell scored a run in the first inning. Parker started with a double to center field, and after a sacrifice bunt to move Parker to third with one out, Delaney McDilda hit an RBI sac fly to drive home Parker for a 1-0 lead.
The Camels scored the final run in the fifth inning after Noemi Cortez hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
A&T had an opportunity to score runs in the sixth inning. Senior Eternal Fuller started the inning with an infield single. After a ground out advanced Fuller to second, Hammond was hit-by-a-pitch. However, a popup and a strikeout ended the threat.
In the home seventh, freshman Jailyn Tineo recorded the only extra-base hit for the Aggies in the doubleheader with a double to left center field with one out. But back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.
Headen (1-4) pitched a complete game giving up two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
