NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES (14-14, 11-7 Big South): A&T opened the season on the road for the first six games and played against two currently ranked teams in No. 23 North Carolina and top-ranked South Carolina.

The Aggies then came home and defeated former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe South Carolina State, 86-46. It was the latest home opener in program history, and it sparked a three-game winning streak with wins over North Carolina Central and East Carolina. 

A&T kept showing improvement with an 87-77 double-overtime loss at Cincinnati after guard Shareka McNeill hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force the first overtime.

After Christmas, the Aggies struggled with COVID issues and dropped their first three Big South Conference games. A&T picked up its first conference win against Charleston Southern 88-50, which sparked a six-game winning streak that included a road win over the top team in the conference in the Campbell Fighting Camels. 

Piedmont Triad rival High Point University snapped the Aggies winning streak after a 72-53 victory at Corbett Sports Center after shooting 40.6 (13-for-32) percent from 3-point range. However, A&T battled back to win three out of their next four before getting their rematch against the Longwood Lancers. 

The Aggies lost the key matchup that could have put them into contention for a top-four seed in the Big South tournament. That seeding comes with a first-round bye, but the Lancers defeated the Aggies 85-71.

A&T defeated Hampton and Charleston Southern before losing its regular-season finale to USC Update to fall to 0-4 at home against teams in the top-5 of the Big South standings. 

Head coach Tarrell Robinson is in his 10th season and needs three wins to become the program's all-time leader in coaching victories. Robinson is 189-106 (.641) in his career at A&T. He is 120-36 (.769) against conference competition. He has won four MEAC regular-season titles and three MEAC tournament titles during his stint with the Aggies. 

UNC ASHEVILLE BULLDOGS (8-21, 3-15 Big South): The 63-43 win in the regular-season finale against Charleston Southern snapped a 12-game losing streak by the Bulldogs. Two of the three conference wins are against Charleston Southern. The other conference win was against Radford in the Big South opener.

Nadiria Evans leads the team with 19.3 points per game. She also averages 5.1 rebounds per game. Evans had 24 points against the Aggies on Jan. 25. 

Honey Brown is in her second year as a head coach at UNCA. She has an 18-36 record.   

THE SERIES: With the Aggies 75-68 win for the first road Big South victory on Jan. 25, A&T holds a 5-4 advantage in the series. 

QUOTABLE: "This Asheville team is a lot different than the team we played one time at their place early in the conference. They are healthy and playing more confident because everyone is playing their natural positions. We're going to have to play better than our last outing if we want to advance and get another stab at USC Upstate."

GAME NOTES

• The Big South coaches selected A&T to place fourth in the preseason poll. The Aggies finished sixth this season.   
• Four Aggies received postseason awards from the Big South. Chanin Scott earned second-team all-conference honors. Center Jazmin is a 2022 honorable mention all-conference selection, and Jordyn Dorsey made the all-freshman team. Sean Kelly Darks landed on the all-academic team.   
• The Aggies and the Bulldogs will play at a neutral site for the first time in series history. 
• The Aggies are 14-6 under Robinson in conference tournament play.
