TEAM NOTES
The Aggies played in front of an impressive post-homecoming crowd of 13,883. In five home games, the Aggies are averaging 13,290 fans per game.Â
The Aggies are 5-0 at home this season and 16-4 at home under head coach Sam Washington. Washington arrived at North Carolina A&T as its defensive coordinator in 2011. Over those 11 seasons, excluding the COVID year in 2020, the Aggies are 49-9 at home with Washington on the sideline.Â
A&T improved to 5-2 against fellow HBCUs since leaving the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in 2020.Â
A&T's win on Saturday guarantees the Aggies a winning season. Starting in 2012, the Aggies put together a streak of eight straight winning seasons before posting a 5-6 record last season. Before this current run, the Aggies had eight consecutive losing seasons starting in 2004.Â
A&T has now won seven straight games against the Spartans. They have won those games while averaging 33.1 points. Their average margin of victory over the Spartans during that span is 27 points. Norfolk's last win over A&T came on Oct. 29, 2011, when the Spartans claimed a 14-10 victory. They last beat A&T in East Greensboro on Sept. 27, 2007, with a 50-20 win.Â
A&T's captains on Saturday were Jalen Fowler, running back Bhaysul Tuten, offensive lineman Dacquari Wilson and free safety Ty Williams, Jr.Â
Next week's game against Charleston Southern will be Senior Day. The Aggies honor seniors who have won numerous championships but also had to forfeit a season because of a pandemic.Â
OFFENSE
The Aggies have scored at least 40 points in every home game this season except one. They defeated Bryant 24-13 at Truist Stadium on Oct. 1. The Aggies are averaging 40.8 points per game at home this season.
Â
The streak is alive and well. A&T running back Bhayshul Tuten rushed for 117 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. It marks his eighth straight 100-yard rushing game, which puts him in a position to make more history.Â
Tuten already holds the school record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He needs one more 100-yard game to tie Tarik Cohen for the most 100-yard games in a season by an Aggie. He needs two more 100-yard games to tie Liberty's Rashad Jennings (2008) for most 100-yard games in a season by a Big South player.Â
If he rushes for 100 yards next week, he will tie Jennings for consecutive 100-yard rushing games by a Big South player in a season. The Big South's overall record for straight 100-yard games is 10 by Jenning.Â
Tuten has 1,149 yards rushing this season. It currently stands as the 10th-best rushing season in school history, with at leastÂ
two games remaining for the New Jersey sophomore.Â
Tuten accounted for four touchdowns on Saturday, three on the ground and one through the air. His three rushing touchdowns are the Aggies first since Jah-Maine Martin did it on Oct. 26, 2019, against Howard. The last time a non-quarterback accounted for four touchdowns in an Aggies uniform was Sept. 26, 2019, when Martin had four touchdowns against Delaware State.Â
There are more A&T records set to fall. Receiver Zach Leslie finished with 11 receptions for 120 yards on Saturday. It was his ninth career 100-yard receiving game, which ties Elijah Bell for the school record.Â
Leslie tied his school record with his third consecutive 100-yard receiving game. He did the same during the 2019 season. He needs 14 receiving yards to become just the fourth Aggie to record 2,000 in a career. His 132 receptions rank him fourth all-time on the school list.Â
Jalen Fowler had another stellar game in his sixth straight start as he threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns on 22-for-33 passing. His 22 completions is a new career high. He has thrown for at least 200 yards in his last four games.Â
Fowler has completed 66.1 percent of his passes over his last five starts, with 11 touchdowns to only two interceptions. His career 3,428 passing yards rank him eighth on the Aggies all-time list.Â
DEFENSEÂ
A&T linebacker Jacob Roberts became the first Aggie to return an interception for a touchdown in back-to-back games. He had a 39-yard return last week against Campbell and a 22-yard return this week against Norfolk State.Â
Roberts also led the Aggies with 12 tackles, including one for loss. It was his seventh-career double-figure tackle game.Â
The Aggies had their second four-interception game of the season on Saturday after they picked off four passes against Bryant on Oct. 1. A&T ranks 13th nationally and first in the Big South in interceptions with 13.Â
Aaron Harris became the second Aggie this season with two interceptions in a game, joining Karon Prunty, who had two against Bryant on Oct. 1.Â
Herbert Booker started at strong side linebacker in place of Joseph Stuckey. Stuckey had his streak of 28 straight starts snapped with his absence on Saturday.Â
Defensive end Devin Harrell returned to the field after missing the Aggies last two games. Harrell made four tackles, including 1 ½ for loss.Â
SPECIAL TEAMSÂ
A&T kicker Andrew Brown attempted a 54-yard field goal on Saturday. It was the longest field goal attempt in school history, and had he connected; it would have been the school record by two yards.Â
