Postgame Notes vs. Campbell

Tuten goes over 1,000-yards rushing for the season.

TEAM NOTESĀ

The Aggies staged their largest come-from-behind win in school history on Saturday, coming from 18 points down at halftime to beat Campbell 45-38.Ā

Ā

A&T has now won 10 out of their last 11 homecoming games and improved to 24-17 in homecoming games played at Truist Stadium. The Aggies moved to .500 in homecoming games overall at 46-46-4.Ā

Ā

The Aggies won for the fifth time in 18 games during the Sam Washington era when trailing at halftime. In addition, they won for just the third time in 15 games when trailing after three quarters.Ā

Ā

The Aggies first homecoming post-COVID restrictions drew a sellout crowd to Truist Stadium.Ā

Ā

A&T's team captains for homecoming were Dacquari Wilson, Zach Leslie, Joseph Stuckey and Jalen Fowler.Ā

Ā

The Aggies have won five straight, their longest winning streak since going 12-0 during the 2017 season.Ā

Ā

The Aggies have had nine 0-3 starts in program history, including this season. Twice they have finished with a winning record despite the slow start. The last time the Aggies started 0-3 and finished with a winning record came in 1985 when the Aggies closed the season with a 6-5 record. They also did it in 1977 with a 7-4 finish after an 0-3 start.Ā

Ā

A&T has scored 40 points in three of their four home games this season, with the 24-point output against Bryant being the only exception.Ā

Ā

OFFENSEĀ

  • The Aggies compiled a season-high 566 yards of offense on Saturday; 366 of those yards came in the second half.Ā
  • The last time the Aggies had 500-plus yards of offense came in the 2019 Celebration Bowl when they compiled 574 yards against Alcorn State on Dec. 21, 2019.Ā
  • Bhayshul had quite a day. He rushed for a homecoming-record 256 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. It marked his seventh straight 100-yard rushing game this season as he continues to extend his school record. If he rushes for 100-plus yards in each of the Aggies remaining three games, he will break Tarik Cohen's single-season record for 100-yard games, which stands at nine (2015).Ā
  • Tuten becomes the 10th different player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, joining Tarik Cohen, Maurice Hicks, Jah-Maine Martin, James White, Marquell Cartwright, Mike Ferguson, Mike Mayhew, Milton Shaw and Maurice Smith.Ā
  • Tuten has 1,032 yards on the season. That is currently the 14th-best rushing season in school history. A&T has at least three games remaining on its schedule in 2022.Ā
  • Tuten's 256 yards on the ground marked the 13th time an A&T back has gone over 200 yards in a game. It is tied for the sixth-best single-game rushing performance in school history, tying Cohen's 256 on Oct. 6, 2016, against Norfolk State. It was the same night Cohen broke the MEAC's all-time rushing record.Ā
  • Tuten's 30 attempts are tied for the ninth-most in a single game by an Aggie as he joined George Ragsdale (11/1/75) and Mike Mayhew (11/17/12).Ā
  • Tuten now leads the Big South in all-purpose yards per game (155.62), rush yards per carry (6.88), rushing yards (1,032), rushing yards per game (129.0) and total touchdowns (10).Ā
  • Fowler made his fourth straight start and had his third consecutive 200-plus yards passing game. He did throw his first interception in 73 attempts on a second-quarter turnover in the red zone.
  • Fowler's 77-yard touchdown throw to Zach Leslie was the longest of his career, topping his 74-yarders at Furman and Hampton last season.Ā
  • Speaking of Leslie, the graduate caught four passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. It marked the fifth time he has had a two-touchdown reception game in his career. Leslie had 118 yards receiving last week at Robert Morris, which marks the second time in his career he has had back-to-back 100-yard receiving games. He had three straight 100-yard receiving games during the 2019 season.Ā
  • Leslie had 1,866 career receiving yards, leaving him 134 yards shy of becoming only the fourth receiver in school history to record 2,000 or more receiving yards in a career.Ā
  • The Aggies converted their first two-point conversation of the season when Fowler connected with Leslie in the fourth quarter.Ā

Ā

DEFENSEĀ

  • Jacob Roberts' third-quarter interception return for a touchdown marked the Aggies first pick-6 since Devin Harrell returned a pass 10 yards for a TD at S.C. State on Nov. 13, 2021.Ā Ā
  • Free safety Ty Williams Jr. led the Aggies in tackles for the first time in his career with eight that included eight solo stops.Ā
  • The Aggies defense gave up 296 yards of offense in the first quarter. However, they only gave up 239 yards over the final three quarters of action.Ā
  • Hajj-Malik Williams threw for 426 yards on Saturday, becoming the first quarterback since 2001 to throw for more than 400 yards against an Aggies defense.Ā
  • The Aggies did sack Williams three times on Saturday. He was sacked four times against William & Mary and four times against Charleston Southern.Ā

SPECIAL TEAMSĀ Ā

  • Ā Aaron Harris returned a career-high six kicks for 141 yards, which is also a career-high.Ā
  • Andrew Brown added another field goal to his totals for the season. He is 13-for-16 on the season and ranks sixth nationally for field goals per game at 1.62. Brown is 14th nationally in field goal percentage. He leads the Big South in points per game.Ā
