TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The North Carolina A&T Aggies suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss at the hands of the Florida A&M Rattlers on Friday night inside Moore-Kittles Field in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) baseball play.
The loss puts the Aggies at 17-30 overall and 12-13 in league action.
he game entered the seventh inning, with the game tied at 5. A&T retook the lead in the visitor's seventh as senior Ryne Stanley sliced a two-out, RBI single through the left side that scored senior Camden Williamson from third. Stanley went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI to lead the way for the Aggies.
The Rattlers responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
FAMU's Jared Weber drew a lead-off walk, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Seyjuan Lawrence that advanced him to second. Catcher Tucker Rayburn drew a walk after A&T senior pitcher Cole Parks was relieved by sophomore Peyton Winebarger (L, 2-2).
Adam Haidermota smoked a two-run RBI double off Winebarger to score both runners and give the Rattlers the lead. Rober Robertson followed with a single, but Haidermota was thrown out at home to end the frame.
A&T could not muster anything in the ninth to tie the game. Zach Morea picked up the win for FAMU after going 1.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Sophomore Cameran Brantley drew three walks on Friday to extend his national lead in the category with 46 on the season.
The Aggies will try to bounce back with two seven-inning games on the schedule for tomorrow, May 8, beginning at 1 p.m. at Moore-Kittles Field in Tallahassee, Fla.
