NCSU Downs A&T In Baseball

Zach McLean homers against the Wolfpack.

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina A&T Aggies dropped a midweek matchup at the hands of the N.C. State Wolfpack, 10-4, on Wednesday night at Doak Field in non-conference baseball action.

The Aggies drop to 9-24 on the season.

A&T spread four hits across the game, paced by junior infielder Zach McLean, who went 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.

True freshman Xavier Meachem (L, 0-6) got the start for A&T, but was only able to go one inning after giving up four runs on three hits.

The Aggie found themselves in a 7-0 hole in the top of the fifth when McLean launched his first home run of the season.

In the sixth inning, the Wolfpack plated three more runs. A lead-off walk followed by two-straight hits brought one around and then NCSU executed a double steal (second, home) to score their second run. A few batters later, the Pack attempted the double steal again and, while the runner was caught stealing to end the inning, it was a rundown play that allowed the runner from third to score, making it 10-1.

A&T would shutout NCSU for the remainder of the game and tallied three runs of their own.

Junior outfielder Justin Rodriguez walked to lead off the seventh and junior infielder Justin Williams followed with a single. Two-straight passed balls put Williams on third while Rodriguez scored. Senior outfielder Camden Williamson grounded out to second base, but Williams was able to score on the play and make it 10-3.

Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk while Williams compiled a 1-for-3 line with a run scored as well.

The Aggies scored one more run, this one coming in the eighth.

Senior outfielder Shane Faulk singled to the pitcher, then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from the NCSU catcher. A groundout from sophomore infielder Tony Mack allowed Faulk to score, but that was all for A&T.

Coming up next, the Aggies welcome Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Florida A&M to War Memorial Stadium for a four-game series this Friday-Sunday, April 16-18, with a doubleheader slated for Saturday.
