Brewer, Shabazz Rewarded For Big Win Over ECU

Brewer earns her fourth weekly honor of the season.

Fatimah Shabazz has two player of the week awards.

EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T received two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly volleyball awards.

The conference named junior right-side hitter Fatimah Shabazz co-player of the week and senior setter Edie Brewer the setter of the week, announced by the conference Monday.

"We are very excited for Fatimah and Edie for making player and setter of the week," said A&T coach Hal Clifton. "Both had outstanding matches against (East Carolina) in our come-from-behind win. Fatimah was able to score from both pins, and Edie did a really good job of getting her hitters one-on-one and then delivering for players to honor their efforts against an FBS school."

Shabazz averaged 5.0 kills with a .467 hitting percentage last week as she recorded a game-high 25 kills, two digs and a block in the come-from-behind five-set win at ECU on Friday. Brewer averaged 6.40 assists, 2.60 digs and 0.60 blocks. She recorded a game-high 32 assists and added 13 digs for a double-double versus the Pirates. She also had three blocks.

Shabazz leads the MEAC with 3.85 kills per set and ranks fourth with a .382 hitting percentage. Brewer ranks fourth with 6.94 assists per set, second with 0.67 service aces per set and ninth with 2.52 digs per set.

This season, the Aggies have received eight weekly awards from four different players, as Brewer has received four weekly awards and Shabazz has received two.

All four of Brewer's weekly honors are setter of the week awards. She received the honors on Feb. 8, Feb. 15, March 1 and March 29. Shabazz's two honors are player of the week recognitions coming on Feb. 22 and March 29.

Junior libero Andrea Laboy-Rivera won defensive specialist of the week on Feb. 8, and Shaylnn Hall received top defensive honors on Feb. 15.

The Aggies finished the regular season on a nine-match winning streak. They start postseason play with the MEAC Championship Volleyball Tournament on Friday. N.C. A&T is the southern division's No. 1 seed and will face Delaware State, the second seed out of the north, at 4 p.m.
